Botox is one of the many trade names for the protein called botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, it has been used for over 25 years and is injected in very small doses into the facial muscles to help smooth out wrinkles. It works by blocking the nerve activity of the affected muscles, making them less active and thereby smoothing out wrinkles and lines.

 

It’s extremely rare for Botox treatments to be painful, normally no anaesthetic is needed and patients are able to carry on with their day as normal after treatment. The procedure will be fully explained during your consultation so you will know exactly what to expect.

 

Treatment with botulinum toxin tends to last around 3-4 months whilst dermal fillers usually last around 6-9 months.
